History and sync across devices

Mate keeps a history of your translations on every platform. With Mate Pro and an account, the history and the Phrasebook stay in sync between your Mac, iPhone, iPad and browser extensions.

Where the history is

• Mac: the Library button in the translate window, then the History tab.
• iPhone and iPad: the Library screen, History tab.
• Browser extension: click the Mate icon, then History.
• Web: sign in at matetranslate.com/account. The History page there is read-only.

Each entry keeps the source text, the translation, the language pair and the time. Search works on all platforms.

Turn sync on

1. Create a Mate account or sign in, in any app. On Mac it's in Settings › Subscription; on iPhone in Settings › Mate Account; in the extension in Settings › Pro & Sync.
2. Switch on Synchronize history and phrasebook (Mac), Synchronize history (iPhone) or Enable synchronization of history and the Phrasebook (extension).
3. Do the same on your other devices with the same account.

Sync runs after each translation and on a schedule. The extension also syncs once a day in the background. Sync needs Mate Pro.

Delete entries

Swipe an entry on iPhone, or use the delete controls on Mac and in the extension. Deletions sync too. On Mac, the trash button in the History tab clears everything; the extension has Mark all › Delete marked.

Switch history off

In the browser extension, turn off History of translations in Settings › Prefs. The Mac and iOS apps always keep a local history; delete entries or clear it as above.

Export

The browser extension exports History and Phrasebook as CSV files (Mate Pro). Mac and iOS don't have export yet, but with sync on, everything is available in the extension. See Export your History and Phrasebook to a CSV file.

Sync isn't working?

• Make sure you're signed in with the same account on every device. Check the email shown in each app's settings.
• Sync needs an active Mate Pro subscription or lifetime access.
• "Could not synchronize. Error occurred." usually means no connection. Try again on Wi-Fi.
• Adding words to the Phrasebook on Mac needs an internet connection.
