Change the global shortcut in Settings › Shortcuts › Open Mate. Click the recorder, press your combination, done. Clear shortcut removes it.
If you'd rather translate with Shift+Return and insert a new line with Return, use the swap control under Shortcuts in the pop-up.
Turn on Auto-translate clipboard in Settings › General to have Mate translate whatever you last copied when you open it with the shortcut. Copy, press Option+Shift+T, read.
Browser extension
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Translate selected text on the page | Shift+T |
| Swap languages in the popup | Cmd+Shift+S on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows |
| Translate in the popup | Return (or Cmd/Ctrl+Return, see below) |
Shift+T can be changed in Settings › On-page. With Mate Pro you can add more combinations, each translating into a different language, up to 21 in total.
In Settings › Prefs, Shortcuts in the pop-up lets you swap which key translates and which inserts a new line.
Browsers also let you assign a shortcut to open the Mate popup itself: in Chrome, chrome://extensions/shortcuts; in Firefox, the gear menu on the Add-ons page › Manage Extension Shortcuts.
iPhone and iPad
There are no keyboard shortcuts, but two quick actions save taps: press and hold the Mate icon on the Home Screen and choose Paste and Translate or Start Speaking.
