How to translate Discord messages

International servers, game chats, communities in other languages: Mate translates Discord messages in place, no bot needed.

Discord in the browser

Open discord.com/app in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera with the Mate extension, or in Safari on Mac with the Mac app's Safari extension. Select the message and click the floating Mate button, or press Shift+T. Double-click a word to translate only that word. This is the smoothest way, and it works in threads and forum channels too.

Discord app on Mac

The Discord app doesn't show the macOS Services menu. Turn on Auto-translate clipboard in Mate's Settings › General, then select the message, press Cmd+C and Option+Shift+T.

Discord on iPhone and iPad

Press and hold a message and tap Copy Text, then press and hold Mate's Home Screen icon and tap Paste and Translate. On iOS 18.4+ with Mate as the default translator, select text where Discord allows it and tap Translate.

Writing in another language

Type in Mate and paste the translation. Discord chat is informal, so set Mate's tone to Informal for languages that distinguish it. See Formal or informal: setting the tone.

Slang and gaming terms

The AI style is the one to use here. It understands slang, abbreviations and idioms, and shows a short usage note under the translation. See Basic, Advanced and AI.
