Translate emails in Gmail

Gmail in Safari on Mac

With Mate's Safari extension enabled, translating an email is one click.

1. Select the sentences you want, or the whole email, with the trackpad.
2. Click the floating Mate button that appears next to the selection.
3. The translation pops up over the email. Press Esc or click outside to dismiss it.

Double-click a single word to translate just that word.

To translate an entire long email at once, right-click the page and choose Translate this page; Gmail's interface is translated too, so click Show original when you're done.

Gmail in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera

Same idea with the browser extension: select the text and click the floating button, or press Shift+T.

Gmail app on iPhone and iPad

Select the text in the email and tap Translate (iOS 18.4 and later, with Mate as the default translator), or Share › Translate with Mate.

Replying in the sender's language

Write the reply in your language in Mate's window, choose the Advanced or AI style, set the tone to Formal if it's business, and paste the translation into Gmail. See Formal or informal: setting the tone.
