On the 3rd of February of 2012, I started actively learning Interlingua, the 1951 vintage created language, using the exciting Euro-based Tatoeba translation project on the Web. Some friends there suggested that this Blue Tongue was the one suited for me. I ventured to the Lulu Island neighbourhood Roman Catholic church, St. Paul's, on some mornings to enjoy the spiritual brown 1960s architecture and to mix with people who thought about Heaven. At this time, I considered myself as having committed to no specific religion, I believing that spirituality was utterly different from religiosity. I still preferred to blend what I know of different religions, although for a long time, it was really generic Animism and non-sect Buddhism which had the greatest impact on me. I thought now that it was better not to proclaim membership to a particular religion, though. People around me still preferred "shrink-wrapped" religions right off the shelves of the Religion Store.

It is now the 30th of July of 2014. Nowadays, I feel that Religion is much fantasy. I embrace Science, the perpetual self-correcting paradigm. I am still wading in the influences of Dharmic religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. And whilst I prefer a generic, postmodern form of Animism, I still cherish the notions in Shintō and Dao. But in fact, I am less religious these days, still just spiritual.

It is the 22nd of March of 2015. A good religious stance is being Dharmic, essentially Hindu-Buddhist. But I still like Animism, as in Dào and Shintō. Science is so essential. So, what my stance today is Syncretic. It means a mixture. I prefer to be an Easterner in the realm of religion.

It is the 28th of June of 2013. Grey is generic Animism. Although most Westerners may not believe in it, Animism can explain many things about one's environment. There are good and bad spirits. Malicious people can be explained by malevolent spirits that have entered their body. That reason is why sometimes a friend or relative may suddenly act strange and obnoxious. Animism was the primordial religion of humankind. And there are still Animists around the world today.

I went later than usual, after noon, to the Lulu Island pizzeria on the greyish 23rd of March of 2022. At the cashier, in front of me, were handsome Mormon proselytizers, one thick and the other thin, ordering pizza. They had ties and eyeglasses on. Facing away, at the counter, the thinner one, still waiting for his order, sat to the left of the thicker one, already devouring his pizza. From his pizza, the thicker one handed the other a pineapple chunk, which he gulped. Metaphorically, they were like Lojban and Esperanto, or Animism and Buddhism, maybe. I ate two slices and drank a diet coke at my usual northwestern corner. A woman reminiscent of my mother came in to order. Maybe, my mother was like the pagan Earth Mother Goddess for some.

I have studied religiology for many years, as I have compared different religions around this world. I am not a gullible person, as many less educated are. My tendency is Animism-Buddhism. But being in this world where a third are influenced by Xtianity, I have to somewhat reconcile my pagan (or non-Abrahamic) beliefs with the Xtians around me.

I was a "Roman Cat" as a child in the Philippines. I was Roman Catholic, at least, nominally, as many Filipinos were. For me, the religion was decorative. I knew a few memorized prayers. I rarely did the rosary. But I had several rosaries, and one was glow-in-the-dark white-green plastic! My school, La Salle Green Hills, was a large private Roman Catholic school. I had my first communion at my school. I attended my cousin Jojo's confirmation in a UFO-shaped church in the University of the Philippines. My Roman Catholicism wasn't deep metaphysical and philosophical like my Animism-Buddhism in my current years, but Animism-Buddhism subtly attracted me since childhood. I've seen Buddha statues and Nature has fascinated me since a child.

Forms of Animism were the mainstay in ancient Philippines, even as a marginal far-flung domain of ancient Buddho-Hindu Srivijaya. As the Muslims converted natives in the south of the Philippines, then later as Roman Catholics converted natives in the north, Animism diminished.

As monotheists converted natives in the Philippines, Animism became relegated to the hinterlands. Nevertheless, urban people still practice and believe in some Animism, such as the "tikbalang" or the werehorse.

My mind about spirituality oscillates between Syncretism and Lojbanism. My Syncretism deals with Animisms as Daoism, Shintō, Native-world Animism, and so forth, as well as Buddhism and Hinduism, but I do not discount Xtian-type ideas from Jehovah's Witnesses, Gnosticism, and my birth religion, Roman Catholicism. My Lojbanism entails the study of Lojban and the practice in expressing spirituality in it, either by writing or making soliloquies.

Born in the Philippines, I had the nickname Nonong, as my family intuitively knew that Orientalism imbued me from childhood. I grew up with the official name Victor like an Occidental in Batangas, Quezon City, and Lulu Island. Though I was nominally a Roman Catholic at birth, Buddha statues and wild bison attracted me as a child. Today, I am a Syncretist, but chiefly a Buddhist-Animist, and I believe in Science. I know that Buddhism is an advanced psychology and that biology can explain Animism. Of Buddhist kinds, I have encountered Zen from Japanese, Theravāda from Thais, and Pure Land from Chinese. Red Indians, Shintoists, Daoists, Oz Aborigines, Eskimos, Pacific Islanders, and other indigenous peoples have imbued my Animistic thoughts.

It seems that Elon Musk is wondering why the Japanese are not firing rockets into space as crazily, and as frequently, as his SpaceX. My guess is that the Japanese are waiting for better technology, waiting until there is a better time (maybe now is too early), waiting for lower costs, or waiting for a big war (inevitable for some) that would shake global politics and destroy the status quo. There are proponents of teleportation, as Michio Kaku, a Japanese-American physicist, futurologist, and writer. The Japanese do not have the same "now, now, now" culture as the Americans. Their "now" culture comes from the mindfulness of the present moment, Zen, unlike American. Many Japanese like also futurology, which has become a religion on its own, there. Elon Musk and others may think that safe teleportation may be a long, long time from now, if ever. In the interim period until such technology would arise, sophisticated rockets may be the only way to get to another planet. Elon Musk has been correct many times, judging from his material and financial successes. (He has admitted that maybe a self-sustaining society on Mars and a "multiplanetary" human civilization would probably arise after his own lifetime.) Americans like "brute force," but maybe it is not the Japanese way. The Japanese have a much longer view of time than do the Americans. They believe in spirits everywhere in nature (Animism) that Americans maybe do not sense.

I think that some Japanese can explain Christianity via Animism.

Today, the 18th of February of 2025, I ate two sandwiches on separate walking trips to Tim Hortons café: In the late morning, I ate a Roast Beef Craveable sandwich, then in the afternoon, a Crispy Chicken Craveable sandwich. It was a grey-clad sky. I usually have a small Earl Grey tea with oat milk. At home, as a break from my studies of Chabacano, Philippine Creole Spanish, I read for practice some stories aloud in "real" Spanish, of speculative fiction. Spanish has lots of available literature. Meanwhile, Chabacano itself needs more written literature, I opine: On the Web, all I could find that were substantial models were religious magazines from Jehovah's Witnesses, even though my spiritual inclination is towards Science, Buddhism, and Animism. Oh, well! The next day, I would discover that Grok AI could write stories in Chabacano! The AI would manufacture stories about Jack and the Beanstalk, and as well as about Count Dracula and his red horse carriage, all in Chabacano.

On the 25th of April of 2025, I had several walking excursions to Tim Hortons café to enjoy various drinks and goodies. It was my fourth hanami—cherry-blossom viewing—at St. Albans Road. Four days in a row, it has been. The pink petals are starting to fade. I ventured into the nearby Roman Catholic church, the big new one which replaced the older one there. In the older one, there were places near the entrances for holy statues and a Mexican mural—as Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. I did not have a chance to take a photograph of it when it was there. The new church is too modern for my taste. In any case, my religion now is Syncretic, tending towards Buddhism-Animism. In my childhood, I was nominally a Roman Catholic.

Today's a cloudy, yet sunny day, the 13th of May of 2025. Yesterday and today, I went to the garden neighbourhood at St. Albans Road to enjoy the scenery and the big Roman Catholic church there, which I have visited maybe the 11th time this spring. The big admirable purple-bloom tree nearby is probably not a Jacaranda, but maybe a Paulownia, an Empress Tree. Nevertheless, it's like saudade for me about South America. I often visit the major worship hall and the smaller Adoration Chapel, where I noticed that at the right front the statue of the Virgin Mary is holding the Child at her arms, and they are not standing side by side, as I imagined from memory. At the big worship hall, there are two crucifixes, one at the front centre and one at the front right, both draped in white cloth. There are Filipinos in the parish. By the way, it's now Pope Leo XIV. I'm really tending to Animism-Buddhism in my Syncretism. I visited Tim Hortons café here on Lulu Island several times during the day to enjoy an Earl Grey Tea with oat milk, an Iced Classic Lemonade, Scrambled Eggs with Sausage and Potatoes, an Iced Coffee with oat milk, and a Wild Blueberry Muffin. Today, at home, I'm reading bits from Spanish speculative fiction, El eterno regreso a casa, by Ursula K. Le Guin. I read aloud for oral practice. I'm also looking at an online Esperanto dictionary to ameliorate my green vocabulary.

This 8th of May of 2025 is sunny warm. In the morning was my 6th walking voyage this spring to the Roman Catholic church on St. Albans Road. I was noticing a big tree which reminded me of the jacaranda tree because of the purple flowers, but it isn't jacaranda. I went to the big worship hall in the church and was noticing the multicoloured stained glass in front. The hall was almost empty. A lady lit a candle. There are Filipinos in this parish. At the smaller Adoration Chapel, 'twas more crowded. (My Uncle Sonny in Los Angeles habitually went to Roman Catholic church every day when he was alive. He was Filipino hybridized with white and black American. But he looked more white in reality.) Homebound, I spent a few minutes at a grove of trees. Sometimes, the trees are the temple that all I need. I'm Syncretic by religion, really, tending towards Buddhism-Animism, but I don't discount other belief systems. It's like potpourri.

This 14th of May of 2025 is cloudy skies interspersed with blue spaces. I walked to the Roman Catholic church on St. Albans Road twice, once in the morning and again in the afternoon, my 12th and 13th times this spring. In the morning was confession for the little boys and girls in uniform. They were of different races, in the big worship hall. The priest was in the confession booth talking to a student. At the Adoration Chapel, I noticed a nice pot of orchids on the front left. In the afternoon, the big worship hall was mostly empty, a condition which I usually prefer. At the road was a handsome muscle man in white tank top jogging. The big purple-bloom tree seems like an Empress Tree, a Paulownia, because of the big heart-shaped leaves. Reminiscent of Jacaranda with its purple blooming, it's saudade for me about South America. At Tim Hortons café, I enjoyed Scrambled Eggs with Sausage and Potatoes and an Earl Grey Tea with oat milk in the morning, and an Iced Classic Lemonade in the afternoon. The day was full of walking. At home, I study bits of Lojban and Esperanto. I have many books in Esperanto. I tend towards Animism-Buddhism in my Syncretism.

This sunny I-don't-know-if-it's-hot-or-cold day of the 22nd of May of 2025, I went walking several times to Tim Hortons café, from about 5 in the morning till after 10 at night. I enjoyed Scrambled Eggs with Potatoes and Sausage, an Earl Grey Tea with oat milk, an Iced Classic Lemonade, an Iced Coffee with oat milk, a Green Tea with oat milk, a Roast Beef Craveable Sandwich, and an expensive Habanero Chicken Bowl. At Starbucks café, I enjoyed a White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew with oat milk. On the street, I passed by Joanne the Ukrainian-descent star-savvy wife of Rod the camping enthusiast. I saw Stella the regular Greek Starbucks customer come out of Kin's Farm Market with tomatoes and greens for making Greek Salad with feta cheese later. I joked that she might be making "moussaká"! At night, at Tim Hortons café, there was a Filipino family, my ex-neighbours. As for religion, my Syncretic inclination is mainly towards Animism and Buddhism, but I don't discount other belief systems. I visited the Roman Catholic church on St. Albans Road, and it was another confession day for the little boys and girls. The interior of the church is like a big clam! Near Bowcock Road, I gazed at the big Empress Tree, its purple blooms wilting. I visited Halal Meat & BBQ, across the street from Tim Hortons café. I admired the Western Asian, Central Asian, and Southern Asian foods on the shelves there—"fantasy brown country"! I was looking for dried apricots and halva.
